“I would like to submit a portrait of my NASA colleague Monica Gorman for your project. This photo comes from [an NRP] publication, so I am not outing Monica in any way, this is just an extension of a risk she already took, and I told her I intend to submit her picture.”
“Unfortunately, I do not know how she first became interested in public services, we are not close friends, but she gives some background and great quotes on her thought process and union involvement in the [NPR] article. “
“As to why I took it upon myself to do this is because of what she did in the early days of this administration, roughly a year ago. When the entire federal government was in turmoil and chaos, nobody knew what would happen to us and how far we will go, our immediate leadership turned on us and left us feeling exposed and vulnerable, in one heated discussion, Monica said “if you need help standing your ground, text me and I will come and physically stand by you”. I thought it was an extraordinary moment of bravery, especially coming from a small woman and a mother of 3, and Monica backed it up on multiple occasions since, by asking tough questions of our leadership in public forums, giving interviews like the one below, and showing up to every protest. I think in our day and age of bombastic and vindictive leadership, quieter acts of true courage should not go unnoticed, so I wanted to report and immortalize hers as much as possible.”
