Before starting at the EPA, I was an environmental quality analyst for the State of Michigan’s Dept of Environmental Quality, which later became the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, for 8 years. I worked directly with drinking water concerns regarding Lead, PFAS, and many other contaminants. I thought working for the EPA was going to be a dream job, and I genuinely loved my coworkers and our program. However, when administrator Lee Zeldin began rolling back regulations, specifically on Lead and PFAS, I could not stand quietly, and therefore decided to sign the Declaration of Dissent. I do not regret signing, even though I am still out of work nearly four months later, I only hope more folks become aware of the future environmental and public health crisis, that is by all means avoidable.
