Wes

I’m an environmental scientist, and since I finished undergrad in 2018, it’s been my dream to work as a scientist in the US Geological Survey. I came back to Maryland for graduate school because I wanted to do work for the landscape and the people where I grew up. I felt that as a federal scientist, I might continue to serve my community and do work which might be of service to all communities with similar challenges. But as an environmental scientist, my prospects for a future in the public sector have changed dramatically in the last year. Funding for graduate students in my field is suddenly much less certain, as is employment after graduating. It may be more difficult, and different from what I dreamed, but I will continue to try and do this work however I can.
